An artist's Snow Day...

Here in the Northeast we have been hit with a slight snow storm and yucky wintery mix. So the weekend has turned into a two day "snow day".

What do you during "Snow Days" ?

Well, here at Andrea's Artz we decided to take a snapshot of wonderful mother nature. During, winter weather it's the best time to turn those shut in days into studio days and tap into your creativity. And when nothing comes to mind pull out your handy camera, and take a snapshot of what nature has to offer for creative inspiration. Then, view all your pics and brainstorm some projects ,while drinking a warm cup of cocoa.

    I thought this quote was very appropriate , not only since it's MLK Day, but because the message is so strong and powerful. During this week, it is important for us to remember to have faith in all that we do eventhough we don't know how the end will result.

Winter...in an Artist's Perspective.

Here in the Northeast winter has arrived.....With temperatures below freezing we as people tend to hibernate and spend more time indoors. For us , crafters and artisans, it's a perfect opportunity to get busy in the studio.

  This season has inspired me to create a place I always love to visit, the Pocono mountains.I decided to re-produce its elements abstractly in this new piece

Nature's Elements

I started with gray charcoal / pastel paper and began sketching out the scene with my dark vine charcoal, then used white charcoal and pastel to bring out the highlights and midtones.

Tidbit Tuesday...How to turn your post -holiday trash into crafty art tools...

So now it is a new year!! The stress of the holidays are over, time to clean , sort and organize all that holiday decor and get your home back to normalcy. 

So, what do you do with all the trash??? Here are a few good useful tips to recycle items into art tools:

Paper dinner plates- make for great paint palettes when painting, or as a tiny bead tray when beading

Plastic Utensils- clean plastic ware , can be used for a variety of art tools, like paint mixer, plastic knives make wonderful palette knives.

Clothing gift boxes- are excellent storage bins for paper, and small art tools

Gift bags- make great on- the- go art travel bags, if you exhibit at craft shows, and gallery venues, this can come in handy to tote things like screws, pencils, picture hangers,tape,stapler,and hole puncher etc.

Torn Wrapping paper- the blank inside, can make for a perfect place to doodle and sketch, or the design of the paper can serve as inspiration for your next masterpiece.

Tissue Paper- if you got a lot of gift bags for the holidays with presents inside, chances are you have a lot of crinkled tissue paper. Well painting with tissue paper or applying it to your next mixed media painting can add a great element to your design. Tissue paper can also be used as a paper craft, folding it into various shapes and framing it, as art work can make wonderful home decor or be your next art masterpiece.

Artist ... Are you Preparing for A Craft Show???...

For the past several weeks I have been posting blogs about my creative journey of my new holiday ornamental collection. Well, my collection is COMPLETE FINALLY, and I actually had the annual holiday Craft Show yesterday, at Eastern Highschool in Voorhees ,NJ. It is so interesting being a crafter and preparing for that big show/s that come around each year. No matter how many years you have done them , or how many times you return to the same venue, you are filled with the same mixed level of feelings, which may include: stress- both good and bad ,  nervousness- of how the show will turn out, fatigue- from many late nights finalizing projects,  excitement - to share your talent to the world .  Well, I am here to tell you I have felt all these feelings and more, yet it was still a fabulous experience.  Feel free to see it first hand by clicking on the image above..
